TURNING, based on a critically acclaimed tour of Europe by Antony and Charles Atlas, is a music documentary that explores the heart of that performance. Through its synthesis of Antony´s songs and unfurling video portraiture of the 13 remarkable women who performed on stage, TURNING creates an i ntimate and cinematic experience exploring themes of identity, transcendence and the revelation of essence.
ANTONY HEGARTY known better as Antony from Antony and the Johnsons released his second album, “I’m a Bird Now”, several artists featured: Lou Reed, songwritercolleague Devendra Banhart, Rufus Wainwright and Antonys earliest role model; Boy George.
The album earned him the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, in 2005. In the summer of 2009 he visited concert hall in Ørestad, where he played with the Danish Symphony Orchestra, in a very successful collaboration.
The last few years Antony has been working in close collaboration with video artist Charles Atlas. The preliminary result is the critically acclaimed concert Turning, which is a subtle journey into the feminine universe with Antony’s music floating into your ears and Charlies pictures in your eyes.
13 “beauties” spinning slowly in the mobile arena. Antony works, both in his performances and in his songs, in a way that examines and challenges traditional perception of identity.
