I DORIAN AWARDS (il nome è un omaggio a Oscar Wilde) sono i premi che dallo scorso anno vengono assegnati dall’associazione dei critici cinematografici gay e lesbo, Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA), formata da stimati critici e giornalisti dello spettacolo, gay dichiarati, che lavorano nei più importanti giornali, riviste, siti web, tv e radio in tutta la nazione USA. Tra i membri più famosi segnaliamo Dennis Hensley, Charles Karel Bouley, Brent Hartinger, Caroline Ryder, David Ehrenstein, Mike Goodridge, John Griffiths, Dave White, Lawrence Ferber, Brantley Bardin e Alonso Duralde. I membri di GALECA, circa una quarantina, scelgono i film, i programmi tv e le interpretazioni da nominare nelle 17 categorie di cui è composto il premio.
Le opere o i personaggi nominati non devono essere necessariamente focalizzati su temi LGBT, contano moltissimo la qualità, l’approfondimento e i valori che vengono trasmessi. Lo scopo di questo premio è comunque quello di aiutare e rafforzare la comunità LGBT, la prevenzione HIV, la lotta contro il bullismo giovanile e quella per l’uguaglianza dei diritti nonché l’equilibrio fisico, morale e spirituale delle persone.
Un po’ a sorpresa e con nostra grande soddisfazione ha vinto il Premio per il miglior film dell’anno, “Io sono l’amore” di Luca Guadagnino, un film che il nostro paese non ha trattato come meritava (niente candidatura agli Oscar) e che fortunatamente viene rivalutato altrove. Tra i concorrenti battuti titoli come Black Swan, The Kids Are All Right, The Social Network e Toy Story 3.
Annette Bening vince la miglior interpretazione dell’anno per il film “I ragazzi stanno bene“, confermando il valore della sua vittoria ai Golden Globe. Qui doveva vedersela con personaggi come Colin Firth, James Franco e Natalie Portman tra gli altri.
Il miglior documentario dell’anno è risultato “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work“, un film che ci racconta i drammi privati della irriverente e leggendaria attrice comica e icona pop Joan Rivers, amatissima dal popolo gay USA.
Il premio del miglior film a tematica LGBT dell’anno è andato a “I Love You Phillip Morris” che vince contro titoli aggueritissimi come “Undertow”, “Howl”, “La Mission”, “I ragazzi stanno benee” e “A Marine Story”.
“Burlesque” vince come miglior film “camp” dell’anno, una categoria che premia la fantasia, l’ironia e la leggerezza che compensano la non sempre facile vita delle persone LGBT.
“The Good Wife” è la serie vincitrice nella categoria Dramma TV dell’anno, che ha sconfitto opere come “True Blood”, “Mad Men” e “Boardwalk Empire”.
“Glee” vince invece senza sorpresa nella categoria Commedia TV dell’anno, vincendo serie come “Modern family”, “Nurse jackie” e “30 Rock”.
A sopresa vince la miglior interpretazione drammatica dell’anno, Michael C. Hall, per “Dexter” (era il peronaggio gay della serie “Six Feet Under”). L’attore ha appena vinto una lotta contro un tumore.
Chris Colfer e Jane Lynch vincono parimerito la miglior interpretazione commedia dell’anno per “Glee”, duplicando il successo dei Golden Globe.

Darren Criss vince come star emergente per il suo ruolo in “Glee“, gay dichiarato e orgoglioso che ha conquistato il cuore di Kurt (Chris Colfer)
Angela Lansbury
Il PREMIO SENZATEMPO, dedicato ad un attore vivente che abbia avuto una carriera esemplare segnata da intelligenza, personalità e saggezza, è stato quest’anno assegnato ad Angela Lansbury.
