Siamo nel pieno della stagione dei premi cinemtografici, che negli USA terminerà con la cerimonia degli Oscar il 24 febbraio (sceneggiatori permettendo) mentre in Italia andrà avanti ancora per qualche mese in attesa dei David e dei Nastri d’Argento.
Dobbiamo subito rilevare che quest’anno ( ma i premi sono naturalmente per i film usciti nel 2007) non c’è una rimarcabile presenza di opere a tematica. Se escludiamo “La promessa dell’assassino”, del grande Clint Eastwood, non abbiamo altri film da poter far rientrare a pieno titolo in quelli che noi definiamo a tematica lgbt.
Tra le candidature agli Oscar abbiamo trovato solo il documentario “Freeheld” (36′), già premiato al Sundance 2007, che racconta della battaglia condotta dal Tenente Laurel Hester, che sta morendo di un cancro ai polmoni, per lasciare la sua eredità alla compagna della sua vita Stacie Andree.
Ai Golden Globe 2008 nessun premio a film a tematica e tra le candidature solo “La promessa dell’assassino” (snobbato agli Oscar) e si fa notare nelle serie tv “Brothers & Sisters” con due candidature.
A riprova di ciò sono anche le candidature, da poco rese pubbliche, dei premi GLAAD (l’associazione americana che controlla la rappresentazione dei gay nei vari media) che presentano solo tre film nella categoria più importante, quella dei film a grande distribuzione, e tutti e tre sono gay molto marginalmente: “Stardust” (con il pirata travestito De Niro), Across the Universe (con un personaggio lesbico di cui nella versione italiana quasi nessuno si accorge) e, forse il più interessante per noi, “Il Club di Jane Austen” che ci presenta un personaggio lesbico orgoglioso e felice di essere tale (purtroppo il film è passato completamente inosservato nelle nostre sale proprio in questi giorni).
Vanno meglio le candidature per i film indipendenti (di piccola distribuzione) con i film Dirty Laundry, Whole New Thing, Itty Bitty Titty Committee, Curry, amore e fantasia, The Bubble che abbiamo potuto vedere nei nostri festival e, uno solo, doppiato da Fourlab e trasmesso sul canale tv Sky Show.
Tanto per flagellarci ancora un po’ possiamo ricordare che un film gay a grande distribuzione è tra i candidati per i “Razzies”, i film peggiori dell’anno, e si tratta del campione d’incassi USA “Io vi dichiaro Marito e Marito” sui due pompieri che si fingono una coppia gay per avere i sussidi pubblici. A titolo di curiosità ricordiamo gli altri candidati al peggior film 2007 che sono “Il campeggio dei papà” con Cuba Gooding Jr, “Bratz”, “Il nome del mio assassino” con Lindsay Lohan (e ben nove candidature in totale) e “Norbit” con Eddie Murphy (con 5 candidature in totale)
