PARTE CON I GOTHAM LA STAGIONE DEI PREMI

Parte con i Gotham Awards, i premi al cinema indipendente americano, la stagione dei premi cinematografici annuali che si concluderà con gli Oscar a marzo 2007. I Gotham Awards, che verranno consegnati nella cerimonia del 29 novembre 2006 a Chelsea Piers (New York), sono gestiti dalla IFP (Indipendent Feature Project) una associazione non lucrativa, fondata nel 1979, che si propone di promuovere e aiutare il cinema indipendente, quello prodotto fuori dai grandi “studios”. Tra i suoi obiettivi c’è anche quello di “fare nascere e crescere infrastrutture che aiutino la produzione di film indipendenti assicurandosi che il pubblico abbia la possibilità di vedere films che con più accuratezza riflettono tutte le diversità della cultura americana”. Difende quindi quello che noi chiamiamo il cinema d’autore, fatto da registi che con passione vogliono comunicare qualcosa di personale e creativo, escludendo tutti i film fatti “su commissione”. I premi Gothan sono nati nel 1991, sono divisi in sei categorie e accettano opere che, oltre a rispettare i criteri suddetti, devono essere stati proiettati, durante l’anno solare in corso, nei cinema di New York e/o Los Angeles, restando in sala per almeno sette giorni consecutivi ed essere stati come di norma pubblicizzati in quel periodo.
Nelle passate edizioni sono stati premiati registi come John Cameron Mitchell, Rose Troche, Ang Lee, Mike Ligh, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, ecc. e film come “Capote” (2005), “Hedwih and the Angry Inch” (2001), “Go Fish” (1994), “Paris is Burning” (1991), ecc.
Tra le nominations ai premi di quest’anno troviamo i film a tematica Shortbus e “Little Miss Sunshine” per il cast, ancora “Little Miss Sunshine” per l’attore emergente (Abigail Breslin) e “Colma: The Musical” per il “miglior film non proiettato vicino a casa vostra”.
