Che la Tv inglese spesso sforna dei piccoli capolavori è risaputo e Last Tango in Halifax rientra perfettamente nei canoni. Celia Dawson (Anne Reid) e Alan Buttershaw (Derek Jacobi) sono due adorabili vedovi settantenni che si ritrovano dopo decenni grazie ad un profilo su Facebook, decidono di incontrarsi e si rendono immediatamente conto che l’amore che provavano l’uno per l’altra in gioventù non è mai svanito e per questo decidono senza ulteriore indugio di sposarsi. A far da cornice a questa dolcissima e delicata storia d’amore, girano le vicende delle famiglie dei due arzilli vecchietti in particolare di Gillian (Nicola Walker) figlia di Alan con un passato tumultuoso e Caroline (Sarah Lancashire),figlia di Celia che nel corso delle stagioni riesce ad uscire da un matrimonio oppressivo ed abbracciare i propri sentimenti per una collega. A parte il cast eccezionale, questa piccola gemma riesce ad affascinare lo spettatore grazie alla semplicità delle storie narrate (le quali hanno anche dei risvolti noir) e la caratterizzazione puntigliosa e coinvolgente di ogni personaggio. Delizioso,assolutamente delizioso. (lbcinema.it) La sottotrama lesbica, assai rilevante, è una delle più significative apparse sulla tv americana di prima serata. La storia d’amore lesbico tra Caroline (Sarah Lancashire) e Kate (Nina Sosanya), che durante la serie programmano di sposarsi, è stata giudicata da molti, The Indipendent in testa, come “una delle relazioni lesbiche più normalizzata mai vista sul piccolo schermo”, anche perché le due figure femminili sono indagate profondamente anche a livello umano, oltre che sessuale. Sono gli anni ’50 e intrecciare rapporti sentimentali, o quanto meno intrattenere relazioni con individui di sesso opposto, non è facile come ai giorni nostri. Molte volte amici e partner vengono scelti dai familiari, altrettanto spesso, ammesso che qualcuno sia stato lasciato libero di prendere da sé questo genere di decisione, si è costretti ad abbandonare qualsiasi tipo di relazione se le persone prescelte non riescono a riscuotere la necessaria approvazione da parte di genitori, nonni e quant’altro. Celia e Alan invece non riescono a vivere pienamente quella passione che li lega fin nel profondo per il semplice motivo che nessuno dei due è mai stato in grado di confessare all’altro di esserne innamorato. La loro vita ha quindi seguito l’iter normalmente praticato per quei tempi; entrambi si sono sposati con il partner che la famiglia ha giudicato più adatto al proprio ceto sociale e alle esigenze del figlio (o della figlia). Sono passati molti anni da quei momenti e tanto Celia quanto Alan sono un po’ invecchiati e soprattutto vedovi. I nipotini, quasi seguendo degli invisibili binari paralleli, hanno convinto, con qualche fatica, sia l’una che l’altro ad iscriversi su facebook. Superando l’iniziale ritrosia nei confronti della tecnologia, i due iniziano a sfruttare il social network per riallacciare un rapporto. Non passa molto tempo che Celia e Alan scoprono di essere ancora legati da quell’antico sentimento che hanno soffocato in gioventù.
